IMA TMC has launched W-PACK, a new packaging technology for the feminine care and light incontinence sector. It replaces traditional low-density polyethylene bags with a sustainable system that uses the product itself as a mold, eliminating conventional bagging machines.
W-PACK boosts speed to 200 cycles per minute (doubling market leaders’ 100-120 cycles) while cutting costs via thinner materials (25-30 microns vs. traditional 35-40 microns) and reducing single-use plastic reliance.
Sustainability highlights include compatibility with paper packaging (optimized to offset its higher cost vs. polyethylene) and use of hot-melt adhesives (including plant-based options) at under 1.8% of paper mass.
Modular in design, it handles various product sizes (sanitary pads to incontinence products) in single/double/triple formats (up to 290mm width, meeting North American demands). Enhanced via IMA group collaboration, it features improved folding, low-temperature sealing, intelligent software for production monitoring/adjustment, and four waste disposal systems to minimize downtime.
IMA TMC positions W-PACK as a major advance in speed and sustainability, aiming to set a new industry standard.
